LMMS: Toby It's a Super Big Day

Hey there!

Today I'm worked on a boy card, I was specifically thinking about one my nephews when I colored rubber stamp Polka Dot Pals Toby. I used Polka Dot Pals Add-on Faces clear stamp as well to give him his expression. I really liked that PDP Toby has curly hair like my nephew, he's in his play clothes and in a homemade cape. I like that he looks playful and in super hero mode. I was thinking about how my brother takes him to him on B.A.R.T. rides a lot and he gets to see Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and San Francisco city skylines on their way home after day care /and after work. My nephew gets excited about all of the people and action he gets to see but also city scapes with the sunset colors on The Bay.

I used the sentiment called Big Day Tobie from Some Odd Girl Stamps, the Make A Card #7 die set from C.C. Designs, and the cityscape is called Super 2 from Paper Smooches, the card rectangle layers dies are from My Creative Time. I colored Polka Dot Pals Toby with Copic markers and I used Distress Inks for the sunset background.

Copic Markers:
E04, E11, E13, E21, R30
E25, E15, Y19, Uniball Angelic White.
W9, W7, W5, E25
R24, R29, R39
B21, B45, B95, B97
G07, G09, G28
Y19

Mini Distress Inks:
For the background layer I started with Distress Inks: Fossilized Amber at the bottom working my way up, from the very top I used Abandoned Coral working my way down towards Fossilized Amber. Then in between the first two colors I used Spiced Marmalade to blend them out. Lastly I used a very light amount of Black Soot on the top and bottom edges and an even tinier amount on the sides. I really enjoy using Distress Inks to give color for backgrounds I can't wait for more colors. I really need to do inventory because there might be more colors out there that I'm missing out on. Oh yea I really need to buy Re-inkers for them too.

I cut up two sets of the Super 2, Paper Smooches die set and just lined and trimmed them to extend the cityscape and fit the card size. After fussy cutting Polka Dot Pals Toby I made sure to place him to cover up the edges where it was more obvious that I joined the two sets of dies.

The reason I used the squiggly comic speech bubble is because I made a mistake with the stamps. I really meant to stamp part of the Some Odd Girl sentiment, add the super die cut and then the rest of the Some Odd Girl stamp....on the background but somehow my paper got stuck to the stamp and the paper lifted bit [insert internal whine face here. LOL] and the I got an offset stamped section where I didn't want it. So after digging around since I had no time to start another background and cut up more cityscapes I found a way to block it with that big comic speech bubble die from CC Designs that also has the "Super" die cut. Sometimes super hero's don't have capes... sometimes they are in paper form and die cuts to block the bad stamping away. Haha In the end I liked that it gave it more of a small child comic book feel. I think I'm going to play with that die set a little more now.

See my crafty mess... looking over to my desk and there is still a bunch of things I need to put away so that I can start on a new card or project.

Also check out Little Miss Muffet Stamps on Amazon... Whaaaaat?!
I know some people that ONLY do their online shopping with Amazon.

  1. Wow, so bright and colorful - I love it! The city landscape die is perfect for this image and I love how you colored Toby. The way it all came together is "Pow wow!" :D
