JDE Sketch Challenge- Thanksgiving

Hello Everyone!

Hope all is well with everyone! It's time for another Sketch Challenge over at Jackson's Digital Expressions. This time with an optional twist: Thanksgiving. JDE also, has a sponsor this week; Bugaboo Stamps.

This time I created two cards - for my first card I used Robert Jackson's LIL THANKSGIVING (which is still on sale at a special- for a limited time). Isn't that image way too cute? I also used a sentiment from Create With TLC (that one was a freebie but not sure for how long.) Here are the links for the image and the sentiment:
http://fineartsbyrobertjackson.com/new-digital-arrivals.html
http://createwithtlc-createwithtlc.blogspot.com/2012/11/saturday-freebie_10.html

Here is this week's Sketch for Jackson's Digital Expressions Challenge

I used DP from Me & My Big Ideas: Harvest
I've had that paper pad for 2 years and had only used one sheet from it (oops)
The image was colored with Copic markers
except for the hair (I don't have blacks or grays yet)
As you can see I had more trouble that usual with my "sewing."

I used Glossy Accents for the knocker/balls

Now on to my Bugaboo card.

I used Christmas Teddy 2 Ornaments. At first I made an oops and didn't realize it was supposed to be a "Thanksgiving theme" and I had chosen a Christmas image to work with but it all worked out in the end because it was just an "optional twist." Again, please excuse my crazy attempt at sewing... I almost started to draw the lines but left it alone. I've sewn much better before... don't know what happened today LOL. Here is the link to the site if you like this digi: http://www.bugaboostamps.com/Christmas-teddy-2-ornaments_p_178.html

Here I used ALL Copic markers
DP is from Martha Stewart Holidays: Winter Wonderland

I don't have buttons like many of my crafty online buddies
but I did have these cute little aluminum bells that I've for a long long time.
(which I thought went perfect with the image.)

Hope you enjoyed your visit.
using the Sketch at the top of this post; you don't have to use a
Robert Jackson image but it would be greatly appreciated if you did.
Thank you so much for stopping by.

Anything but a card: Earrings

Good morning everyone!

I hope your extended weekend was awesome and if you didn't have that extra day I hope it was still jammed packed with fun/family/food and crafting.

This week at Jackson's Digital Expressions the team welcomed a wonderful digi stamp company My Heart Pieces again :) You'll be seeing more from them at JDE as well.

The hosting team was the Altered Art Group that means we work on "anything but a card."

I've seen a few videos here and there online and decided to give bottled cap earrings a go.

Robert has so many neat and interesting digi drawings when I found "Profile 7" I knew she'd make some cool earrings. I copied and pasted the image then flipped one for that mirror image and reduced the size so that I can fit it on the bottle cap.

Finished set
 Close up

This was my very first time working on earrings of any kind (please be gentle on the comments (; ) I think I did quite alright so I'm going to have to make a necklace to go with these earrings to make it a complete set.

Well ladies and gentlemen I tried to keep it short and sweet this time ;) I know I blabber too much sometimes on writing but I'm awfully quiet in person heehee. Don't forget to visit http://jacksonsdigitalexpressions.blogspot.com/ for our weekly challenge and also visit this week's sponsor : http://myheartpiecesdigitalstamp.blogspot.in/ a very sweet artist lady to work with.

Thank you so much for visiting.

Happy Birthday Robert Jackson aka Mr. JDE

Hello Everyone!

I hope all is well and dandy. Guess what? It's Roberts Birthday!!! Happy birthday to Mr. JDE and his twin sister Kezia!!!

I made my card merging Robert's Logo with Happy Birthday Girl digi which can be found in the special occasions link:
I think it's fun when we use rubber stamps and switch heads or clothes from one character to another. You can also achieve this with digital stamps but the magic about digi stamps is that you can do it on the computer without using "tangible scissors" or wasting paper and ink. I merged the two images with the program GIMP. I'm still new using this program but it wasn't too hard and the best part it's FREE. I colored the image with Copic markers, one Spectrum Noir, Copic Atyou Spica and Sakura gelly rolls. I used this weeks sketch from Jackson Digital Expressions blog.
Completed card :)
The sentiment is from My Creative Time stamps.
The few tiny spots like the sleeves and part of the candle that I couldn't exactly merge or were blank spots I just finished off with a Copic multi-liner.
Hope you like my card and you had fun.
Thank you for stopping by,
Katya Bess

P.S. Don't forget about Robert's Birthday Special to celebrate, he will be offering a Special Birthday Kit with 5 exclusive images to everyone who orders between now and August 29th (more details on my previous post)

Mr. Jackson's Birthday Special

Special message from Robert Jackson:
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am very excited this week because I am offering a birthday special.  Yes, my birthday is coming up! I will be turning 36 years old with my twin sister, Kezia, on August 29th. To celebrate, I will be offering a Special Birthday Kit with 5 exclusive images to everyone who orders between now and August 29th.   To make it a little more exciting I will be offering an additional bonus birthday image to the first 36 individuals who place an order this week.  I just uploaded 15 new digital images for the week so there are a variety of choices.
Feel free to spread the word to your friends and fellow scrappers.  I will send out the Special Birthday Kit and bonus images on August 29th.  I will also be offering 2FREEBIES instead of 1 for anyone who purchases 10 or more digis (this week only).
Be sure to stop by Jackson’s Digital Expressions to view my upcoming images.

Thank you,
Katya Bess

Super Hero in the Toilet

Good morning Crafty Friends!

How all is well! Please excuse me for my little rambling at first... I'll get to my project in a minute or two...  you may skip if you want after the the "line" I created. Okay up this early during the school year... yeah I don't know why I'm doing this to myself I know I'll be sleepy when it's time to pick up my daughter from school. So yesterday I didn't get to do my little post because I had called in a plumber. Okay one toilet backing up hmmm... okay... but two toilets backing or flushing slow? Oh heck no!!! Before any doodoo or pee "spillage" I had to call a plumber in... asked the hubby for help and for some reason wasn't listening or reacting so before I had major clean up to do so I had to do it. Twice I found my little rascal one and half year old son trowing toys in the toilet (I took toys out and threw them straight to the OUTSIDE garbage). What's up with kids under 2 years putting things in the toilet?  It happened with my daughter, Jade, when she was his age at our old house with a red block and a toothbrush. My son Xzavier around 1, I know much younger he started walking AND climbing at 10 months. So now my son Tiberius is up to no good. I took these toys out the toilet hoping and praying there were no more in there.... but NO... couple of days later the toilets don't function properly... ugh! The plumber finds Avatar the Airbender and calls me... but who comes running after me? Tiberius and Xzavier; they want to know what was pulled out of the toilet! Excited over seeing that toy... before taking chances on the little one grabbing that nasty thing again had to throw that sucker OUT. The other toilet had a larger lego. Sometimes I hate legos and hotwheels I find those things everywhere in my house... not to mention all of those ABC magnets. Sometimes I wonder was I as fascinated with the toilet as a little 2 and under child? Maybe, I do have a toilet or say "outhouse" memories... LOL.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay on to my little project heeehee.

So school is in... I know not the only time to read books but I just kept hearing the word book or books and reading... not to forget Hunger Games, Twilight, True Blood Sookie Stackhouse Series... LOL so I had to come up with another bookmark and really need to make more. This time a more traditional styled bookmark and with a Robert Jackson image :)

I used the image Uh-Oh once again. I hope you don't get tired of her... at first I didn't know what to create with her but every time I look at my folder with Robert Jackson images I keep thinking of a new project to make with her. You can find Uh-Oh here: http://fineartsbyrobertjackson.com/lil-folks.html I feel that now-a-days you get surprised about a lot of things and this image is perfect for a lot of occasions. LOL Like: OMG He proposed!!! OMG my top college picks chose me!!! OMG by baby/child is going away to college!!! OMG you're pregnant! OMG I'm pregnant! OMG I'm getting old/ getting wrinkles... and the list goes on... my OMG this time is:

I came up with the sentiment and printed it over Kraft cardstock and
ran it through my Cuttlebug with a Spellbinders rectangle die. I used Broken China
distressed ink around the raised edges of the triangle.
I used the Kraft cardstock to Copic color in my image
because it gives it a different look and feel... I don't know dark and vintage sort of.
Sakura white Gelly Roll for the eyes, shirt, petticoat and stockings.
I know I'm horrible at lining things up so I'm trying to
"perfect" my fuzzy cutting...  and gluing as center as I possibly can....
still working on that too.
I used an eyelet for the ribbon hole.
The Ribbon is from Galena and it just says "Metalic" for the name
but it's more like an iridescent than a metalic.
The back layer paper is from DCWV's
The immortal love stack 12x12 paper
and I also ran than through the Cuttlebug with
Spellbinders die Deckled Rectangles.

Well that's all for now folks.
Have a great day ;) and thank you for stopping by.

Back to School Card for Kindergarten teacher

Hello Crafty Friends.

I have created a "back to school" card  with one of Robert Jackson's digi images. This digi name is
"Lil Back to School" You can find her on the Lil Folks gallery: http://fineartsbyrobertjackson.com/lil-folks.html I love this image.

I think the image is super cute for my daughter's Kindergarten teacher card.
Or even a scrapbook layout for 1st Day of School.
Somewhat detail of the "wooden desk."
I used Copic markers for the clothes, books, apples and skin. I used Spectrum Noir markers for her hair much cheaper than Copics- they did bleed a tiny bit but I wasn't using special paper... just plain old card-stock which is why I had to change my whole "card plan." (Can't throw my coloring away... I know it's just paper and ink but I'm slow at coloring and I barely do anything crafty so just make something different with the image right?) So I cut it and gave it a slight pop up look by fussy cutting her . I reprinted the image in brown for the desk and used a zebra embossing folder moving it slightly 3 times to give it a "wood" look but the embossing was too deep so I ran in without a folder to flatten it out a bit. I used glossy accents on the hair knockers/balls as well as on the mug to give it that ceramic look (sorry my photography didn't capture that.) The sentiment is from Emma's  My Creative Time, Gift Card Sentiments.

Thank you so much for stopping by my page. I hope you check out more of Robert Jackson's digis. Also, there are Weekly challenges always "Anything Goes." http://jacksonsdigitalexpressions.blogspot.com/

Much Crafty Love,

-Katya Bess

I've entered my card at the following challenges:

For my Anything Goes Challenge# 17: Optional brads/eyelets, I used: My Heart Pieces digi stamp- Beautiful Nature
You can check out her images at: http://myheartpiecesdigitalstamp.blogspot.in/

  • To color my image I used Caran D'Ache Supracolor II Watersoluble Pencils
  • Designer paper from Heart Warming Vintage's Collection: Classic
  • Spellbinders: Fancy Tags
  • Spool O' Ribbon
  • White eyelets sized at 1/8"
  • Double bow technique was with my fingers (lol no special tools needed) video example:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHYE3EZj3NQ

Thank you: Nursery Nurse

Hello Everyone!

Hope all is well. Here's another challenge and partnership of new sponsors sites for J.D.E. this week we are are introducing Bugaboo Stamps which are created by Jodie. Jodie is a mom of 5 and has been designing graphics for 9 years. She has many types of stamps from babies to special causes to animals to sexy and to cranky old people (I meant that in the funny way no disrespect to old people teehee.)

I made this card specifically for the Nursery Nurses. All of my children were born early and there has been no explanations on why except the last one which the doctors think it may have been due to dehydration. Who knows but at the N.I.C.U. the nurses were Nurturing, Understanding, Remarkable, Sweet and Efficient.

This is my showcase for Bugaboo Stamp: Eggbert Nurse 2

The sketch is for this weeks optional/anything goes challenge at http://jacksonsdigitalexpressions.blogspot.com/

I believe it was also using 3 colors.
My main colors of course were yellow and then  pink and blue for acccents.
I had this card "almost" done and then I didn't like the designer paper I had previously chosen so I hand drew baby feet like the receiving blankets at the hospital. I also drew them on the baby egg.
I also, didn't have ribbon wide enough so I glued 3 ribbons to make a wider looking ribbon matching the baby's blanket.
For the sentiment I just used my printer and spellbinders... came up with a few words for each letter in the word NURSE. This would be a great card for a "surprise baby," since it's not gender specific.

Hope you liked the card and enjoyed your visit.

Hugs,

-Katya Bess

Back to School Project

Hello Everyone!

Hope all is good and dandy. Continuing with the month long challenge/s and partnership of new sponsors sites for J.D.E. this week we are are introducing Mayzy Art Stamps. Mayzy Green is the heart of these cute stamps. She's a self-taught artist and boy do I love her stamps. At J.D.E. we decided to make it a "Back to School Theme" of course the challenges are "Anything Goes" for everyone using any stamp your hearts desire.

Here is my project/s; a mini backpack and a card to go with it.
The Mayzy Art Stamp I used is "School Time Hailey"

This is my "wanna be keychain with charms" LOL I wish I had the tools
to make an "actual keychain" but I thought the backpack was too bare
and just had to add something. What is a girl's backpack without a cute charm anyway...?
Right! A boy's backpack. lol
I know I have shrink wrap somewhere in my crazy looking craft corner but I just couldn't find it
maybe it's in the garage when I was putting my "junk-not-so-much-trash" away. So what I did is I printed just a few accents from the "School Time Hailey" digi stamp and enlarged them.
I colored them and then added Glossy Accents.
This is my first time using Glossy Accents and I love it.
I used Glossy Accents to make her glasses have the "glass" look.

For her uniform I printed one out the same size,
then cut just inside the lines all around it as well as
the pleats. I did this because I wanted a uniform like
the one my daughter will be wearing for Kindergarten
the school uniforms will be either Khaki or Navy blue.

Here's the card...
The sentiment is from Emma's My Creative Time: Gift Card Sentiments Set

and the mini backpack.

I hope you ladies and gents enjoyed your visit.
Don't forget to link up at:
It's always "Anything Goes" just enter you'll never know what
cool prizes you'll win unless you enter.

Anything Goes

Cardless (I do have a card obviously lol but I did use the stamp elements as charms I hope it counts)

Mermaid in a Jar

Hello Everyone!

Hope all is well. Just got my internet back about an hour or so ago LOL.

I created this card with an image ( Mermaid in a Jar ) from A DAY FOR DAISIES http://adayfordaisies.com/ which is a new sponsor for us at Jackson's Digital Expressions.

My take on "Mermaid in a Jar"
I found the quote online: "Empty your jar of WISHES and FlLL your jar of HOPES."
I use a tiny tag die from Emma's My Creative Time
I followed this week's Color Inspiration over at JDE
poped up in the middle and glued the sides down so it looks rounded instead of flat.
I used a card sketch from Card Positioning Systems http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/07/cps-273-part-1.html

I used pearlscent acrylic paint. The entire image is actually very shimmery like
using glimmer mist but I couldn't capture that on camera.
I printed out my digi image on watercolor 120 lb paper and heat set the image. I only heat set
for a few second and didn't find ink smearing. The only issue was with the little fish but that's because I added a lot of water to paint the "water" lol but the
thick paint covered the fishies pretty well; the thicker paint actually gave them a 3D effect.
I outlined the entire image with my Sakura pens when it was dry since the pearl paints sort of
covered the "black ink"
These are the materials I used.

Hope you enjoyed your visit. Make sure to check out JDE weekly for chances some fabulous winning digis.

Crafty Hugs,

Katya Bess

Let the games begin: II + Summer Fun Mini Hop

Hello everyone and welcome to JDE's Summer Fun Mini Hop!

At Jackson's Digital Expressions, we thought it would by "Jolly" good idea to use this hop to introduce one of our new sponsors. So, in addition to the six wonderful images from our resident artist, Robert Jackson, you have an opportunity to win an adorable image from DigiDarla Designs.

DigiDarla is the brain child of Kim Eskola and her daughter Emilea.
Emilea and I both enjoy creating and when the idea of creating digital stamps came up, it sounded like the most wonderful way to earn ever! There was only one problem! We are both shy and dislike the center of attention! As a way of "hiding behind the scenes" and avoiding having one spokeswoman,
DigiDarla was born!
Working with Emilea on this project has been a wonderful blessing and has stretched both of us. Emilea is a busy teen with her passion for art and training our 2 horses, piano and violin lessons, and squeezing in high school classes somewhere in between! She is also the oldest daughter in a family of 11!

Here is the DigiDarlas digi I used. On her site you can search for : Soccer Girl 4
I chose to make this card Clean And Simple (CAS card)
I used Prismacolor pencils to color her but I did use one Koh-i-noor color pencil
for the main color of the skin since the Prismacolor one seemed too pink for her skin.
The soccer ball is Xzavier's ball (my son) LOL he kept coming to my desk asking he if could play and I kept telling him I'm borrowing it for a few minutes (So...BACK OFF) lol
Here is a close-up of the colored image. I customized the uniform to represent the
USA Women's Soccer Team by adding stripes to the shirt and the Nike logo.
(One of these days I'll have to recreate this with their new uniform and one for my girl Hope Solo)
I added tiny details like grass stains on her cleats and on her soccer ball.
Either winning the National Silver or going straight for the gold you know I'm going for the USA Women's Soccer team

The rules are very simple. We are asking this "Burning" question: "What is Red, Yellow, Black, Green, Blue and has Rings?" As you visit each blog, look for the mystery words which are hints to help you answer the question.

Start at Jacksons's Digital Expressions, post your entry into the challenge and then begin the hop. Here is the order:
Katya - (You are Here)

I hope you are having fun and thank you for stopping by.

Many crafty hugs,

Let the games begin: I

Good morning crafters and all alike!

I hope you're having a wonderful day. Just to let you know today is the kick-off of a wonderful month at www.JacksonsDigitalExpressions.blogspot.com (J.D.E.'s blog) with the DT showcasing
the July release also the introduction to new DT members.

Here is my take on  "Lil Street Baller II" one of July's releases.
With all of the rave about the 2012 Olympics I decided to use this image.

I made this a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 sized card.
I got to use some Prismacolors this time (woohoo).
I ordered a box of 72 prismacolors and still not here yet...
The weird part is that a friend of ours is moving from his larger home to a smaller place so
he was getting rid of stuff... he gave me some dishes (I want them but I don't get excited over no dishes LOL). So in the box he put some marker pens didn't check if they worked or not but there was a  box of 36 Berol Prismacolors. I must say I love them; even after I use the OMS the colors still look vibrant! The only place I use my Kho-i-noor was the skin since I didn't like the browns for the skin tone I was trying to achieve. Don't get me wrong I still love my Kho-i-noor pencils they all give a different hue from the Prismas so I'm not giving them to my kids like I did with my Crayola pencils LOL.

My hubby also bought me an Otte-Lite (he surpised me with one) I guess the YouTube video worked. He knew what to get me and they were on clearance at Michael's. I guess if I want something I'll have to show him YouTube videos so he can see what I want and what I want to use them for. Still working on my staging though.

For the background with a combination of laziness and too much work to do around the house and with my kids I didn't build anything special like a "box" I just used 2 blank canvases I have.

The "gold" medal prop is my daughter's pre-school graduation medal (the front side has a teddy bear and it says "graduate")

The quote I just had to come up with one I kept trying to find one online and I guess I was giving myself a headache yesterday trying to find something "adequate" and today I just thought of that without even really thinking about it (it's like what the heck why didn't that happen yesterday?)

The reason I said "it tastes like gold" is because I noticed (when did watch the Olympic games I will try to watch more this year...) when a winner was presented with a metal they would bite it. I don't know if it's tradition or if the're really testing if it's real gold/silver/bronze or not. I recall my parents use this bite technique to check their gold. I don't know if that really works or not I know I'd be fooled so I'd rather take it to a professional if I really needed to check something being "real."

Sorry for the long post. Have fun and thanks for stopping by!
Remember to stop by at Jackson's Digital Expressions and join the "anything goes" challenges; you can use ANY stamp (Using any of Robert Jackson's digis is always a plus though.)

bye for now,

-Katya Bess

JDE Inks & Such Card / Farmer Girl

Hello Everyone,

This is my card for Jackson's Digital Expressions Inks & Such DT Project.

This is our teams's Challenge #8
http://jacksonsdigitalexpressions.blogspot.com/2012/06/anything-goes-challenge-8-inks-and-such.html please click on that link to participate.

The image I used is from Jackson's Digital Expressions called 'Lil Farmer.'
If you're on the blog to get to Robert's online digi shop just click on his photo on the left side of the page or you can just go to:
http://www.fineartsbyrobertjackson.com/new-digital-arrivals.html

For Inks & Such projects you can use any color medium to hand color your stamped or digi image.
Here's my take on the inks & such card.

I colored the image with Copic markers, Copic Atyou Spica pens and for the hair
I colored with Marvy Uchida markers since I don't have any black or gray copic markers.
I used a white gelly roll for the dots in her eye.

Tip or Technique: For the clouds I just used a napkin as a fake dauber
using Color Box cat's eye ink pad; the white one.

Copic Atyou Spica 'Gold' for a slight sparkle over brown copic marker on her eyes irises.
I also used Copic Atyou Spica 'Red' for her hair balls or knockers and 'Pink' for a slight shimmer on her lips. I lined the eyes with a black Copic multiliner.

I used my Cricut for the small sunflowers which are in the Country Life
cartridge but the flowers are called Wildflowers.
The large Sunflower and leaf are from the Spellbinder's Sunflower Two set
and I also used the Deckled Mega Rectangles Large set (the smallest die)
to cut the sentiment.
The sentiment is from Kenny Chesney since I was looking for country sayings.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I hope you enjoyed your visit. Thank you for stopping by.

See you soon.

Thinking of you / Grandparent

Hello Everyone,

Hope all is great with everyone. Here's a card I made.

This is how it looks before I add OMS. The image is from
Jackson's Digital Expressions it's called Suga Mama

I used a Spellbinders die to frame it and to add to the scare corners as well.

While waiting at doctor appointments I've been working on making mini
crochet flowers... yes some came out very wonky only because I forget to count my chains lol. This one wasn't so bad (I counted that time). I still have to work on technique and eventually want to learn how to make bigger flowers and other patterns. The chain I find that I can do it so much
faster with my fingers than with the needle.
My mom gave me some thin yarn that she hasn't used and  for the crochet needle,
I bought a pack of 4 (it came with different sizes) from the dollar store.

Close up on spellbinders die and embossing.
When I saw this image (Suga Mama) it reminded me of my daughter kissing and hugging my mom.
My kids have 2 grandma's and 2 great-grandma's so for my side of the family my mom is their Abuela (Grandmother in Spanish). I just found that it wouldn't be so confusing to them when I was teaching them the "family labels" lols and when they are referring to a certain grandparent I'd know which one their are talking about and will also when I was talking about a certain one.  Plus I'm teaching them to speak Spanish along the way.

Thank you everyone for visiting my blog.

Jackson Digital Expression Launch Party & Blog Hop

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the Launch Party for Jackson's Digital Expressions. If you came here from Berni Cuttino then you had landed in the right place.  If not, return to Jackson's Digital Expressions and start the hop there!  We are having a BLOG HOP and Design Challenge to introduce our DT members and to introduce many of you to our  Resident Artist, Robert Jackson. We hope you will  HOP along with us, PLAY along in our Design Challenge, and BECOME a new follower!
Here is my project.
I chose this cute little girl, the digi is called Go Night Night I
I found the sentiment on line and just ran it through my printer
I used Koh-I-Noor colored pencils and Odorless Mineral Spirits (OMS)
For the hop my project was to include Kraft Paper
I chose my new Spellbinder's die Romantic Rectangles because
it reminded me of those fancy crochet baby blankets I used to see from older relatives.
Here is close up of the face. The colors on the picture don't give it justice...

For the Hop: Follow the path to each DT member's blog.
Make sure you leave a comment on each and that you FIND the MYSTERY LETTER
When you complete the hop, return to Jackson's Digital Expressions and leave a comment that includes the MYSTERY WORDS.
